Abstract

Breast conserving surgery followed by whole breast
irradiation (total dose=50Gy/25 fractions/
5 weeks) and by a boost to tumor bed (total
dose=16Gy/8 fractions) is the standard local treatment in early breast cancers. American and
European society have recently put forward for
patients with a low risk of local relapses alternative
schemes of irradiation by shortening overall treatment time: hypofractionated breast radiotherapy.
Accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) is one
of these new schemes. Here, this review would
highlight rational of such short radiotherapy, techniques, carcinologic and side effects of APBI.
