Intérêts de l’ écho-Doppler au cours de la thrombose veineuse superficielle des membres inférieurs

Superficial venous thrombosis (SVT) is common and
considered a benign and self limited disease with its rapid
resolution and favorable outcome. However this
perception is now changing with several clinical trials
which have shown the incidence of venous
thromboembolism and extension or / and recurrence of
SVT in patients with isolated superficial thrombosis at
presentation. These results point on the place of duplex
not only to confirm diagnosis and localization and
extension of thrombus at presentation but also in the
follow-up.
No evidence based guidelines are actually available in
the management of STV and in the opportunity to repeat
duplex in the follow-up, but we summarize experience of
French vascular physician in this field and conclusions
from a Workshop of the French Society of Angiology.
