The treatment of the reflux component should be performed subsequently only in cases where a successful outcome has not been obtained.
The treatment of only component of the pathology should be executed in isolation, allowing an adequate period to pass before treating the associated pathology.
This because, despite the parameters given by instrumental investigation, the surgical treatment is dictated
principally by clinical elements.
If in the future we can distinguish more accurately between the two components (obstructive and refluxive)
identifying and quantifying the significance of each element, we will be able to formulate a more scientific and
objective decision.
