Lipodystrophy although being a known pathology and treated by different techniques remains
a poorly described entity. Indeed, the literature on the subject makes little contribution.
This pathology is also described under other names: cellulitis, localized adiposity, lipoedema, "pannicolopathy" which, however, reflect various clinical situations of different severity.
If the distinction between forms of varied pathophysiology can be easily made, it is more difficult to carry out an evaluation of the severity on the basis of clinical criteria alone.
B-mode ultrasound is a crucial diagnostic tool to differentiate the different
causes as well as to look for an associated pathology whether venous or lymphatic, elements which constitute a decisive concomitant factor. Above all, it allows an evaluation of the severity of the lipodystrophy.
