During the initial phase of treatment of a venous thromboembolic episode, anticoagulant treatment should be maintained as long as the benefits of this treatment outweigh the risks, in particular
at the risk of hemorrhage. A minimum period of 3 months must be prescribed at the end of a proximal DVT or a
EP according to Afassps recommendations published in November 2009 (www.afssaps.fr). Beyond that, the optimal duration should be discussed according to the characteristics of venous thromboembolic disease (VTE) and the
