In 20 years, the revascularization of arterial lesions
peripheral endovascular treatment has become essential
as first-line treatment in a large number of areas (renal, iliac, tibial, etc.). At the carotid level, at the end of the 1990s, the results of the
of patients considered at risk for surgery being
encouraging, randomized studies are then decided.
In 2009, several randomized studies were published
mainly concerning patients with stricture
symptomatic of carotid bifurcation. At these
patients, surgery remains the standard treatment.
For asymptomatic strictures, studies comparing stenting to surgery are in progress or in gestation.
A comparison with medical treatment, combining antiaggregants and statins, is envisaged in one of these studies.
