Echo-guided compression ultrasonography and percutaneous thrombin injection represent the techniques of
choice for the treatment of uncomplicated pseudoaneurysms. A conservative treatment with repeated ultrasound monitoring might be proposed to asymptomatic,
small false aneurysms (<2 cm). However, this attitude is
no longer used in most centers.
In reason of the high recurrence rate the first day after
closure, a control ultrasound should be performed at
24 hours. For pseudoaneurysm secondary to a percutaneous procedure, the surgical indication has become rare
and reserved only for cases requiring urgent care as skin
necrosis, arterial or nerve compression, or in case of
quickly expanding false aneurysm. Algorithms for the care
of pseudoaneurysms are nowadays available.
