Elaborating on the potential encounter between Gilles Deleuze’s philosophy and Qiaoyi theory seems both promising and problematic. Promising because Deleuze is one of the most important French philosophers of the second half of the 20th century: confronting his conceptual creativity with the new theoretical framework of Chinese contemporary thinking called 侨易学 could help promoting a new and original platform for transcultural
studies. But it seems also very problematic: Deleuze’s engagement with Chinese culture seems both sparse and contradictory, if not ultimately deceptive. How to overcome this methodological obstacle? What kind of conceptual tools can we find in Deleuze’s philosophy to justify a Deleuzian reading of the Qiaoyi overcoming Deleuze’s own rejection of Chinese thinking as philosophical? Reversely, what hermeneutic apparatus can we find in
Qiaoyixue to elaborate a sinicized version of Deleuze allowing us to include his thinking in the framework of intercultural transformative encounters? On what cultural and historical grounds can we establish this encounter?
