Abstract

China’s “going-out policy” has long encouraged the internationalization of its oil industry, in a controversial attempt to secure energy resources and acquisition of foreign technologies. Exposed to overcapacity and highly innovative foreign competitors, the flagship of China’s renewable energy industry has now to go out and revise its development strategy as well. Supported by an official line praising Chinese efforts in terms of renewable energy investments and advantageous credit facilities, these Chinese “Strategic Emerging Industries” are slowly changing the international energy landscape.
