Abstract

It is still too early to assess the impact that Donald Trump’s stunning victory will have on bilateral relations between the US and China. What the first week of the Trump presidency have however clearly reshuffled the cards. Trump’s provocative positions in the campaign have been replaced by setbacks and diversion maneuvers which have noticeably weakened Washington’s position. Unfortunately, Trump’s apparent lack of strategy is likely to have an impact well beyond its term.
