Abstract

This introductory article briefly introduces the turbulent history of science fiction in the Sinophone world (China, Hong Kong and Taiwan), emphasizing its transcultural dimension and the role played by translation. I also give some insights into the revival of Chinese science fiction in today’s China and its value in terms of soft power granted to it by the Chinese state. I also mention the new spaces of creation and reading for science-fiction in China and I conclude by highlighting the relevance of the contributions of this issue both to understand the history of the societies in which these works have been produced and for a global study of science fiction.
