This article introduces one of the last interviews of Ilham Tohti, a Beijing-based Uyghur economist who was arrested in 2014, charged with subversion and separatism and given a life. The first part presents his trajectory and struggle to solve tensions between Uyghurs and Chinese authorities. The second part is the translation, from Chinese into French, of an interview with Voice of America (VoA) on the Uyghur situation and escalating violence following a terrorist attack in Beijing attributed to Uyghurs. The translation received permission from Ilham Tohti’s daughter, Jewher Ilham, and from VoA.
