Génocide ouïghour : cheminement d’un projet colonial

Abstract

I.n the first semester of 2021, the parliaments of seven Western countries recognized that China is carrying out genocide against the Uyghurs. A resolution was tabled before the summer in the National Assembly in France to this effect. What is going on between the Chinese state and the Uyghur people? Why are we talking about genocide today? What is the root of the Sino-Uyghur conflict? In this article, I will try to answer these questions by explaining the colonial process gradually put in place which has greatly worsened over the last decades and which can be described as totalitarian development perfectly combining a dictatorial system of the “Stalinist” type and a “savage” capitalist economy specific to the current Chinese regime. From the theory of “settler colonialism” developed over the last decade, I will analyze here the case of the Uyghur Region in order to demonstrate the process of the ongoing genocide which is the result of a long colonial project
