Between the last phase of Japanese colonization and the arrival in Taiwan of the nationalist government led by Chiang Kai-shek, dance was assigned the mission of helping the political power to
take root on Taiwanese land through its contribution to the cultural, social and political upheavals
of the society. However, as the Japanese Empire and the Nationalist Party sought to reap different results, they planted their seeds in different pastures. Assuming that the body, including the
dancing female body, can unveil the transition process of a society, this article aims to understand
the changes experienced by Taiwanese society by focusing on the policies imposed on the practice
of dance from the 1930s to the 1950s
